The Jukes family have been in the funeral industry for over 70 years

All our products are manufactured with great care to the specifications for coffin manufacture as outlined by the Funeral Furnishing Manufacturers’ Association (FFMA), which has been established since 1939. All our coffins are suitable for cremation and burial purposes.

Looking After The

Environment

All our coffins are suitable for cremation and burial purposes. Timbers and timber products used in our manufacturing processes are carefully sourced from managed, sustainable resources where management and replanting are government supervised.

Wherever we can, timber waste is re-used, and chemicals used in our wood finishes are processed to extract the base chemicals for use in the paint industry. We only use lacquers, wood finishes and application methods that fully comply with the latest regulatory requirements set by the Environmental Protection Agency.

We strive to re-use packaging and keep our own to a minimum. The Jukes Group believes that the environment is important to us all and with conscientious manufacturing practices, we can ensure a cleaner, safer world for generations to follow.

Jukes Group History

1950s

The Jukes Brothers

The Jukes Group, as it is today, owes its origins to a small joinery shop set up in the 1950’s by brothers Derick and Dennis Jukes, in Birmingham’s Balsall Heath.

1959

Main Coffin Suppliers in the Greater Birmingham Area

Initially the two-man workshop concentrated on doors and windows for the local building trade, however through a social connection, a request was made to produce a coffin for a local funeral director.

1975

Growth and Expansion

The company grew and expanded into fitted wardrobes, veneering, along with coffins and the retailing of household furniture. Eventually in 1975 the company was sold to a PLC.

1977

Specialising Exclusively in Coffins

After a couple of years of ‘retirement’ Derick and Dennis, seemingly bored, decided to start up again, this time specialising exclusively in coffins and in 1977 Midland Funeral Supplies Limited was established.

1981

Stewart Jukes, Joined the Business

Derick’s son, Stewart Jukes, joined the business as a bench hand and soon worked his way up to Foreman, and on to General Manager.

1989

New Director

Stewart was made a Director.

1994

Growing the Family Business

Derick retires and Stewart over the coming years starts growing the family business through new start ups and by acquisitions. Very exciting times lie ahead as the Jukes Group evolves.

2001

Brian Reid and Son Founded

Brian Reid and Son Limited, founded by Brian Reid and Stewart Jukes, is located in Perth, Scotland. The extensive knowledge born out the relationship shared by these two families enables the team today to successfully deliver top quality handcrafted coffins and caskets across Scotland and the north of England.

2002

L T & R Vowles Limited

Stewart acquired L T & R Vowles Limited, one of the oldest and most well-known of all coffin manufacturers in the UK, having been active in the Timber and Funeral Industry for over 80 years.

2005

F E Harris Limited

Another acquisition, this time F E Harris Limited. Established in Plymouth in 1920 by Frederick Edgar Harris as a firm selling builders' hardware, with a side line in coffin furniture, and covering Devon and Cornwall.

2013

Beverley Veneers Limited

Beverley Veneers Limited was acquired having been established in 1966 by Tony Warburton. Beverley Veneers pioneered the switch in popularity from solid timber coffins to veneered chipboard coffins, saving trees and money.

2021

DFS Caskets

2021 saw further expansion in Scotland with the acquisition of DFS Caskets, ‘probably the best-made coffins in the UK.’ Established in 1981, based in Annan, south west Scotland, supplying customers throughout Scotland, northern England, and northern Wales.
